Skippers Party

This weekend, we play one 30 minute show Saturday Sept 24 at Skippers Smokehouse, as part of their 25th anniversary celebration. There will be numerous other excellent bands as well. I personally am looking forward to seeing my good friends Pat Harpe and the Quivering Rhythm Hounds and Ronny Elliott and Steve Connelly, Magic Marco, Freight Train Annie, Damon Fowler (hopefully with Riley B Charles), Mod Squad... I know guys from all those bands. Great people, great bands.

We play Saturday sept 24 one 30 minute show. better be there about 3 if ya dont want to miss us, but i would say we'll actually play about 3:30 or 4:00.

That's our only PUBLIC show this weekend. We'll be back at the Blue Shark next weekend.

CONGRATS to TOMMY!

In what is rapidly shaping up as the season of Tommy Duncan, his outstanding blog, Sticks of Fire, has been awarded "Best Local Website" by the Weekly Planet! Congratulations to Tommy, BUT, I have a feeling we're going to be saying "Congratulations to Tommy" a whole lot in the very near future!
Congratulations Tommy! Here's a pic of Tommy reading TBT... could this be a hint of things to come?

EDIT: YES! Tommy gets TBT PROPS TOO!

it lasts longer

Professional photographer Luis Santana came out to shoot the band on Saturday night for tbt*, and got some great photos. Check out the most recent JGLB party time caught on film, on Buffalo Bills Fan Appreciation Night. Ray Blade and Ben Jammin’ were bangin’ and jammin’. Johnny G. Lyon was wailin’. As usual, Tommy Duncan was just standing there, doing as little as possible.

If you want your picture taken in Ybor City, call Luis. Or just wait until one of the guys from Ybor Eye shows up, and smile!

update 9-9-05

We will be playing at the Blue Shark this weekend (Sept 9-10) and next (Sept 16-17). Please come and join us.

Check out Tommy's blog, Sticks of Fire, to see how he's helping hurricane victims. Click here to see the receipt for our contribution last week to the Red Cross. Thanks to all of you who helped us raise $1157.00 for hurricane relief.

On Saturday, Sept 24, we will perform at Skippers Smokehouse's 25th Anniversary party. We play at 3 PM or so. We will only play for a half hour, but i promise we'll really kick ass. That will be our only public performance that weekend.

We return to the Blue Shark for the weekend of Sept 30-Oct 1.

RIP Esther Wong

In the early 1980's, Los Angeles was my home. Our band was called "Johnny Lyon and the Hitmakers" (and a few other names).
We made some nice friends. One person who was VERY nice to us was Esther Wong, who passed away recently. I learned of this bad news when I checked out my good friends The Rubber City Rebels website.
If you wanted to hear me jam in 1982 or 1983, your best bet was to check out Madame Wong's West, or possibly the original Madame Wong's in Chinatown. Thank you, Ms. Wong, for letting me perform at your very prestigious venue, almost certainly the most prestigious venue i have ever played with any regularity... (other than perhaps the Blue Shark)
RIP Esther Wong.

Quick update

Thanks to the generosity of all of you, the JGLB were able to add another $700 to the amount going to victims of Hurricane Katrina. The total so far is $1,157.00. We'll be adding further details some time soon, along with a photo of some sort of receipt, just so everyone can be sure...

Again, thanks a bunch to all of you who helped us.

Those who were unable to make it to Ybor this past weekend can donate directly to the red cross.

hurricane relief for victims of Katrina

The JGLB plans to donate all tips received this weekend. We got a great start last night, thanks to the genorosity of our fans and the Blue Shark. So far, we have collected $446.00, and want to reach over $1,000 by the end of tonight. Please come out the The Blue Shark in Ybor City, listen to some great live, local music, and help us help our family, friends, and neighbors on the northern Gulf Coast.
